WordScope Privacy Policy

What WordScope Does

WordScope is a browser extension that counts words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, and calculates reading time, speaking time, and readability scores for text you select or view on web pages.

Data Collection

WordScope collects zero data. Specifically:

• No personal information is collected
• No text content is stored or transmitted
• No browsing history is tracked
• No analytics or telemetry is used
• No cookies are set
• No third-party services receive any data
• No user accounts exist

How Text Processing Works

When you trigger WordScope (by clicking the icon, using the right-click menu, or pressing Alt+W), the extension reads the selected text or page content locally in your browser. The counting happens entirely in the browser's memory. The original text is never saved — only the computed numeric results (word count, character count, etc.) are temporarily stored in chrome.storage.local so the popup can display them.

Local Storage

WordScope uses chrome.storage.local to store:

• The most recent counting result (numeric statistics only)
• The source of the count (selection or full page)

This data is stored locally on your device, is never transmitted anywhere, and is overwritten with each new count.

Permissions Explained

• activeTab — Allows WordScope to read the text on the page you are currently viewing. Only activated when you explicitly trigger the extension.
• contextMenus — Adds "Count words" to the right-click menu for quick access.
• scripting — Injects the counting script and floating results overlay into the current page when you use the extension.
• storage — Stores the most recent numeric counting result locally on your device.

External Requests

WordScope makes no external network requests. All code runs locally within the extension package. No data leaves your browser.

Children's Privacy

WordScope does not collect any data from any user, including children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy is updated, the new version will be published at this URL with an updated effective date.
